Lisa LaFlamme is the National Affairs Correspondent for CTV NATIONAL NEWS. Regarded as one of Canada’s top journalists, she is also a regular fill-in anchor for Canada’s #1 national newscast and will be an integral part of the CTV national broadcast team as daytime host of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games.
LaFlamme’s career started as a radio news reporter for CFCA-AM 109 in Waterloo from 1989 to 1991. She moved into television as a reporter and anchor for CKCO Kitchener from 1991-97 before taking the national stage as weekend reporter and anchor for CTV NEWS CHANNEL , while also the Consumer Reporter for CTV NEWS. In 1998 she moved to prime time as anchor for CTV NEWS CHANNEL while beginning as substitute anchor on CTV NATIONAL NEWS. Getting a taste of news from our nation’s capital, LaFlamme served as parliamentary correspondent from 2000-01 and then assumed co-hosting duties of CANADA AM from 2001-03. She became National Affairs Correspondent for CTV NATIONAL NEWS in 2003.
LaFlamme regularly unravels complicated political events and national issues for viewers. She was on hand in January 2009 to cover the inauguration of President Barack Obama and reported from China for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games. In 2007 LaFlamme examined two of the biggest legal cases in North America: the murder trial of Robert Pickton and the fraud trial of Conrad Black. True to her hard news journalism roots, she has made multiple trips to Iraq and Afghanistan to cover ongoing military activity and even spent 12 days embedded with Canadian forces in 2006 as they tracked the Taliban.
Outside of broadcasting, LaFlamme avidly supports Plan International, formerly known as Foster Parents Plan. Traveling to remote areas for the last several years, she highlights the greatest instances of child poverty throughout the world.
LaFlamme has received five Gemini nominations in the Best News Anchor category and a Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) award for Best Live Coverage. She is an honourary Doctor of Laws from Wilfrid Laurier University. LaFlamme hails from Kitchener, Ont.
